See sharks, Mola Mola and enjoy diving in Bali for advanced divers
Although the dives here are often deep dives with unpredictable currents, they are highly rewarding specially during the Mola season.
Divers with Advanced Open Water certification and a minimum of 25 dives can join the Gili Mimpang / Tepekong dives. For maximum experience we recommended a total number of three dives here, combining Gili Mimpang / Tepekong with Gili Biaha.
Special for advanced divers
Unpredictable currents and often deep dives create perfect underwater conditions for advanced divers.
Diverse marine life, sharks and Mola Mola
The dives are rich in marine life with the highlight being sharks and the Mola Mola during yearly season June – October.
Read and learn about the dive sites in Gili Mimpang and Tepekong
These dive sites are only recommended for advanced divers
comfortable with deep dives and in unpredictable currents.
Gili Mimpang is home to one of Bali’s best Mola Mola cleaning stations. Set at approximately 30 meters deep, Mimpang is definitely designed specially for divers with AOW certification and a minimum of 25 logged dives. The topography of the dive site is unique and sharks are often nearby.
Although found just nearby Mimpang, Gili Tepekong is a completely different dive site with a completely different topography. Tepekong is hosting a shark cave where often White Tip Reef Sharks can be seen but although entrance into the cave is not allowed, visibility is generally good enough.
One main difference between Mimpang and Tepekon is the lack of a Mola Mola cleaning station. However, often the Molas can be seen passing by.
Kubu village is located just a few kilometers from Tulamben. The two dive sites on Kubu reef are easy and perfect for beginners and more experienced divers. You start your dive in a shallow coral garden then going down along a nice wall with a very good marine life. The current is usually very light which makes it an easy and relaxing drift dive. You can see whitetip and blacktip reef sharks patrolling the area along the wall. There is also a superb pinnacle covered with soft and hard coral. On the sandy bottom you can see numerous blue spotted stingrays.
Tulamben Coral Garden lies to the east of the well-known wreck of the MS Liberty and to the west of the Tulamben Drop Off. The dive site starts at a depth of 2mtrs and slopes down to a maximum depth of 15m-20m. As the name suggests, this spot consists of a wonderful coral garden inhabited by countless species of fish and small aquatic creatures making it an Eldorado for macro photographers. It is also a super snorkelling spot – well suited for a snorkelling trip during the surface interval between dives or for non-divers. Besides the usual reef fish there are several kinds of moray eels (e. g. blue ribbon moray eels), porcupine fish, ghost pipe fish, octopuses and nudibranches. White- and black tip reef sharks often pass over the coral gardens.
