What makes Bali diving so special?

Bali combines open water, healthy coral reefs, and diverse tropical life. It is famous for Manta Rays and iconic shipwrecks, so experienced divers always find a new challenge. Calm, friendly conditions also suit PADI courses and first-time try dives.
From roughly June to October, advanced divers can target Mola Mola (sunfish), enjoy drift diving off Nusa Penida, or hunt macro subjects on the north and east coasts. Between dives, Balinese temples and fishing villages add culture to the trip.
Here are the top dive sites for Bali Diving

1. Tulamben
Tulamben on Bali's east coast is world-famous for the USAT Liberty wreck—now an artificial reef full of life—and for macro photography, where critters like nudibranchs reward patient shooters. Water temperatures are warm year-round (about 28–29 °C / 82–84 °F), similar to nearby Amed.
While you are in Tulamben:
- Scuba diving — Liberty and Boga wrecks, coral gardens, and volcanic terrain.
- Snorkeling — Shallow reefs from shore for non-divers.
- Beach hopping — Tulamben, Sambang, Kubu, and quiet black-sand shores.
- Visit Pura Lempuyang Temple — Sacred complex with iconic views toward Mount Agung.
- Trekking — Hills and volcano routes; sunrise treks are especially popular.
2. Amed

Amed is a small fishing village on the northeast coast next to Tulamben. Volcanic black sand beaches meet clear, nutrient-rich water—ideal for diving and snorkeling. Reef sharks, artificial and natural sites, and a calm atmosphere make it a favorite escape from busier south Bali resorts.
3. Menjangan Island

Off northwest Bali, Menjangan Island lies in West Bali National Park. Strict access keeps reefs in excellent shape, with clear water, walls, and rich fish life. Staying on the north coast avoids long day trips from the south. Combine diving with snorkeling, short hikes, and wildlife spotting in the park.
4. Nusa Penida

South of Bali, Nusa Penida is the place for Manta Rays at Manta Point and, in season (about June–October), Mola Molain cooler water—sometimes down to ~16 °C / 60 °F. Plan multiple dives to cover south and north sites; the north shore often has some of Bali's finest reefs.
5. Padang Bai

Padang Bai is an easy day-trip from much of Bali, with low currentssuited to relaxed diving and newer divers. Water can cool to about 24–26 °C (75–78 °F) in the dry season. Advanced sites nearby (e.g. Gili Mimpang, Tepekong) demand experience when currents run hard.
When is the best time to visit Bali for diving

Diving works year-round, with warm water and decent visibility even in the wet season. For the calmest seas and often the best visibility, aim for the dry season (about May–October). Cooler water at Nusa Penida and Padang Bai then means a 5 mm wetsuit is wise. Shoulder months like May or October can balance good conditions with fewer crowds.
How to reach the Bali diving spots

Bali is large; reaching the best sites usually means road transfers and solid local knowledge of access and conditions. A reputable dive center plans when and where to dive safely and comfortably.
